1. What is BOTOX® Cosmetic and how does it work? BOTOX®Cosmetic is a medication that is used to reduce wrinkles and give your face a natural relaxed look. Botox treatments involve small injections administered by the doctor in the specific areas that are best for you.
Many wrinkels are caused by the contraction of muscles. BOTOX®Cosmetic treatments relax those muscles. You'll still have normal facial expression however the wrinkels will be improved because the muscle causing the wrinkle is now relaxed. If done regularly, BOTOXCosmetic® even prevents wrinkle from forming, or getting worse.
2. How long does it take to see results and how long do the results last?
Some patients see results can be seen within 24-48 hours, however it can take as long as two weeks to have the complete effect. Typically a Botox treatment lasts three to 4 months. However there are some patients who have results that last longer. It is not unusual to have a patient who's treatment lasts up to six months.
3. Are treatments painful?
Most patients have minimal discomfort that lasts for a very brief period. Dr Cohen & Dr Swartz have developed a special technique to make Botox treatments very pleasant. The treatment itself only takes a minute or so and there is no discomfort after the treatment. Once a patient trys Botox it is very very rare for them to stop treatments because they find discomfort to be a problem. If you are someone who is particularly concerned about needles, we will be happy to use numbing cream on the area prior to the injection.
4. Does BOTOX® Cosmetic cause bruising or any other side effects?
We find that most of our patients do not get bruising from Botox. However, it is possible to have bruise following any injection. The other side effects of Botox are rare and include drooping of the eyelid or drooping of the eyebrow. These rare problems can often be adjusted by Dr. Cohen or Dr Swartz and are always temporary.
5. Will I still have normal expression after BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment? Will my face seem frozen.
Drs Cohen and Swartz each have over 15 years experience using Botox. In many offices the treatment is performed by a nurse. In our office, 100% of your treatment will be performed by Dr. Cohen or Dr. Swartz. After your treatment you will still be able to naturally smile, frown, and look surprised. Botox is not just a medication, it is a treatment. The quality of your results are very related to who performs the treatment.
6. What will happen to the frown lines between my brows or my crows feet (or other wrinkles) if I decide not to continue getting Botox?
When Botox wears off, after about 3-4 months, the lines return. However, we find that patient who get repeated treatment often have a degree of permanent improvement from the Botox. This happens because as your skin naturally regenerates each day, it forms without a wrinkle if you are not constantly bunching that area up with the undesired facial movement.
7. How much does a Botox treatment cost? What is the price of Botox?
In our office we charge based on the amount of Botox that you receive in your treatment. So the price depends on the amount you need to achieve your goals. However most patients get great results between there brows (the 11's) for $300.
8. Who performs Botox injections?
Many different specialties of physicians perform Botox injections. These include (in alphabetical order) dermatology, facial plastic surgery, oculoplastic surgery and plastic surgery. In our practice all of the injections are performed personally by your doctor, never a nurse. That is something very special about our practice
