Restylane®, Juvederm®,Perlane® & Belotero® are crystal-clear gels which are the same as a natural skin substance called hyaluronic acid. These treatments have essentially replaced collegen as the preferred filler treatment. Hyaluronic acid is a sophisticated substance that retains 1,000 times its weight in water, retaining moisture in your skin. They are not made from animals, so there is no risk of an allergic reaction. In fact, it is perfectly safe to use immediately without allergy testing.

Restylane & Juvederm (Soft Dermal Fillers)- FAQ

1. How do Restylane and Juvederm work?
Restylane & Juvederm are dermal fillers. They are made of hylauronic acid which is a natural skin substance. They each a gel that is injected into the skin. They can be used to fill lines on your face (like the smile lines between nose and mouth) or they can ad volume to areas that have flattened with age (like your lips or cheeks)

2. How long do these fillers last?
Depending on your metabolism and the area of your face that is treated, Restylane and Juvederm usually last at least 9 months. In certain areas (like under your eyes) they last much longer.

3. Who does the treatment?
In our office all treatments are personally performed by either Dr. Cohen or Dr. Swartz. Never by an assistant or a nurse.

4. Will my lips look too big?
Many people notice that, as time goes by, their lips look smaller than they did in the past. For these people a light treatment of Juvederm does the trick. It returns your lips to how they looked when you were younger. Other people feel that there lips are just too small. If that is your situation, Juvederm can be used to naturally enlarge your lips so that look more plump. Our approach is to always produce a natural result that makes you look younger and more attractive, not like you have had a treatment.

5. Can Restylane and Juvederm be used to treat people with every skin tones or color?
Yes. These fillers can be used in patients with very light skin, patient with very pigmented skin, and everything in between. The treatments do not cause hyperpigmentation or scarring in patients, including patients of color.

6. What if I do not like the results of my treatment, or there is an area that I do not like?
One of the major advantages of both Restylane and Juvederm is that they are reversible. In the unlikely event that you are not happy with the results of your treatment, a touch-up can often be performed. If needed, the entire treatment can be reversed by injecting a safe medication, called hylauronidase, that completely dissolves the filler.
