How To Treat Wrinkles Around the Lips

December 20, 2017 10:47 pm Leave your thoughts

As we age, our face naturally loses some of its fullness and our skin loses elasticity. This causes fine lines around our lips. The first step in your journey to erase stubborn lip lines is to find an experienced cosmetic physician to discuss your treatment options. Read on as Drs. Cohen and Swartz answer some frequently asked patient questions.

WHAT CAN DERMAL FILLERS DO TO MY LIPS?

  1. Soften smile lines between the nose and mouth
  2. Erase marionette lines below corners of mouth
  3. Restore natural moisture and fullness to lips
  4. Smooth lip lines or “barcode” lines
  5. Lift the corners of the mouth
  6. Define lip borders

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR DERMAL FILLERS TO BE INJECTED?

Non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatments including dermal fillers for lip lines are quick and easy enough for a lunch break! Most patients can return to work immediately following any lunchtime treatment. Rest assured, while these treatments may be quick, every procedure in our office is personally performed by Dr. Cohen or Dr. Swartz and customized to fit your goals.

WHAT ARE MY FILLER OPTIONS?

There are several options to create kissable, line-free lips including Juvederm, Restylane, and Volbella.

WHAT ABOUT BOTOX?

Botox can be used to treat fine lines around the lips. Botox can work very well if the lines are primarily dynamic (present mostly with puckering). However, if the lines are bothersome even when your mouth is relaxed, a dermal filler is the better way to go. Some patients benefit from a little of both Botox and filler.

WILL FILLERS WORK ON DARK COMPLEXIONS?

Dermal fillers work very well for skin no matter how much pigmentation is present.  Keep in mind that in any patient with any complexion, filler injections can occasionally cause a bruise. If that happens, it’s important to avoid the sun until the bruise is gone. In pigmented skin, there can be some darkening if it is exposed to the sun when a bruise or skin irritation is present.

WILL MY LIP AREA SWELL?

Lips are an area of the face that swell quite easily. We tell our patients that they should wait two weeks before they really judge the full result of dermal fillers. At that point, if there is anything that is not ideal, adjustments can be easily made.

WHAT OUR PATIENTS ARE SAYING

The biggest impact on the appearance of your lips after a filler treatment is the skill and experience of the doctor providing the treatment.
