Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery in Bala Cynwyd, PA

Before you can decide if you want to undergo eyelid surgery, it’s important to first understand what cosmetic eyelid surgery is. You should understand what the different types of cosmetic surgery are, how the procedure is performed, and what the recovery time is.

What Is Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery?

Cosmetic eyelid surgery (otherwise known as blepharoplasty) rejuvenates the appearance of the eyes by restoring youthful contours to the face. Cosmetic eyelid surgery is a highly-customized procedure that can address a number of cosmetic problems surrounding the entire eye area.

Types of Eyelid Surgery

Upper Eyelid Surgery
This procedure targets issues such as droopiness or puffiness on the eyelid, which helps people suffering from impaired vision and gives the face a more “awake,” youthful look.

Lower Eyelid Surgery
This procedure removes under-eye bags, reduces puffiness and tightens excess skin giving the face a refreshed, rejuvenated appearance.

Eye Bag Surgery
This procedure diminishes under-eye bags and puffiness to smooth and soften the skin under the eyes, which is the most delicate skin on the face, and one of the first spots to show aging.

How is Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery Performed?

This surgery is performed with the use of a laser, which allows for more precise results. At our office, we use a CO2 laser to contour the eyelids, which offers the most precise results and the quickest recuperation time.

All surgeries are performed at surgical centers near our Bala Cynwyd, PA or Voorhees, NJ offices.

Is Anesthesia Used During Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery?

Cosmetic eyelid surgery is often performed under twilight sleep anesthesia, which is a less intense form of anesthesia. In twilight sleep anesthesia, the patient remains conscious but is sedated. A lot of surgeons use this anesthetic technique when removing a patient's wisdom teeth.

What to Expect After Eyelid Surgery

Most patients resume normal activities about one week after the procedure, however, that recovery time is dependent on which surgery, or surgeries, is performed. To learn more about the post-surgery recovery process, please read our blog, "Post Eyelid Surgery FAQs".

When is Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery Necessary?

For some people, eyelid surgery is necessary because their eyelids impair their vision; however this is a trick question because most of the time cosmetic eyelid surgery isn’t necessary, it’s a desire. For those suffering from droopy eyelids that affect your eyesight, call to schedule a consultation with Dr. Swartz to see if we can help.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Long is the Recovery Time?

In our surgeries, we use CO2 lasers which offer patients a quick recovery. Most patients can resume their normal activities about a week after their procedure, however, the recovery time is different for every patient. To learn more about the post-surgery recovery process, read out blog, “Post Eyelid Surgery FAQs”.

Do you perform eyelid resurfacing?

We do! We perform laser skin resurfacing all over the face, as well as around the eyes. It is one of the most effective treatments for texture problems, including deep-set wrinkles. To learn more about this non-surgical procedure, please go to our Laser Skin Resurfacing page.

Do you perform double eyelid surgery?

Yes, we perform double eyelid surgery. For more information, please schedule a consultation to discuss which treatment is right for you.

What’s the best treatment for hooded eyes?

With hooded eyes, the excess skin and/or fat can be removed by blepharoplasty, or upper eyelid surgery. This is a very customizable procedure and the actual procedure depends on the severity of the individual's eyes.

How do I know if fillers are enough or if I need surgery?

Dermal Fillers are great for smoothing lines and wrinkles, restoring facial volume and more. Eyelid surgery, generally speaking, is for cases where the skin is a little more aged and needs a little more TLC. If you are considering either procedure, a consultation with Dr. Cohen and Dr. Swartz will further explain the difference and suggest a course of action that is right for you.
