When our patients want to change something about their chin, they are usually interested in getting rid of wrinkles. Chin wrinkles typically appear with certain facial expressions, and they can take on several forms: a horizontal line (sometimes called a chin crease) across the top of the chin, vertical wrinkles at the outside edges of the chin, skin depressions or even dimpling like an orange peel (sometimes called peau d’orange). These concerns are common and easily treated.

What many patients don’t know about their chins is that their shape, or contours, contribute to the overall appearance of their face. Because of this, giving the right proportions to these contours can help achieve a more youthful look.

How To Get Rid Of Chin Wrinkles

To treat chin wrinkles, we usually start with BOTOXCosmetic®. Chin wrinkles tend to be created by the repeated movement of certain chin muscles when we purse our lips or make other facial expressions, and Botox helps these muscles relax. With the muscles relaxed, the overlying skin does not wrinkle, and any residual creases gradually fade away.

How To Treat Chin Dimpling

Chin dimples can be either hereditary or the result of aging skin. For dimples that only show up when certain facial expressions are made, we typically use Botox to restore the chin’s smoothness. For dimples that are present even when the face is relaxed, we typically use fillers like JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, and Restylane® Silk.

How To Reshape the Chin

When it comes to shaping facial contours, dermal fillers are usually the treatment of choice. The chin is no exception. Because dermal fillers can add volume and fill lines in precise locations, they are ideal for giving the chin just the right shape to lend a young, attractive appearance to the whole face. This most commonly helps with asymmetric and receding chins.

We like to use Juvederm, Restylane, Restylane Silk, and BELOTERO BALANCE® for these treatments, although the patient’s unique facial anatomy always dictates which filler we will ultimately use.
