Lips and Mouth
Are you dissatisfied with the appearance of your mouth or lips? You’re not alone. At our practice, smile lines, marionette lines, lip lines, lip shape and thin-looking lips are some of the most common concerns brought to us by patients.
Why do we develop these lines and wrinkles? Why do our lips get thin and “flat”? Although the science behind these issues is complex, it all comes back to changes in our facial tissue- our skin and what’s beneath it.
Starting as early as our late teens and early twenties, our facial tissue begins to lose volume and elasticity. These changes make some parts of our faces (like our lips) look deflated while making our skin more susceptible to wrinkles. Because wrinkles typically develop where our facial muscles bunch up our skin, the area around our always-moving mouths gets more than its fair share of them.
However, just because these wrinkles are common doesn’t mean that you have to live with them. Using artistry and science, we help hundreds of patients rejuvenate the appearance of their lips and mouths every year. Although every patient is different, we have described some of our most common approaches to treating the lips and mouth below.
How We Get Rid Of Smile Lines
Smile lines (also known as laugh lines, parentheses or nasolabial folds), are the wrinkles that run from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth. Dermal fillers are a great option for smoothing these lines away, and JUVÉDERM®, Restylane® and Restylane Silk are the three fillers that we use most often to do so. To determine which filler is best for your smile lines, we examine the depth of the lines and other aspects of your facial anatomy during your consultation.

How We Get Rid Of Marionette Lines
Marionette lines are similar to smile lines, but run from the corners of the mouth to the chin. We typically use Juvederm, Restylane or Restylane Silk for these wrinkles, but as with any treatment, the patient’s unique facial anatomy dictates which product we use.

How We Get Rid Of Lip Lines
Lip lines, sometimes called lipstick lines, are the fine vertical wrinkles found just above the lips. At first these lines only appear when we pucker, but as we get older, they start to stick around on a more permanent basis. Pucker lines are often treated with a light Botox treatment.
Dermal fillers are the solution for the more permanent lines, and most patients get the best results from Restylane, Restylane Silk, Juvederm or BELOTERO BALANCE®.

How We Make Lips Fuller and Change Lip Shape
Lips get thin from gradually losing volume, and dermal fillers are a perfect choice for making them full again. We typically use Juvederm, Restylane, Restylane Silk or Belotero for this treatment, and our approach prioritizes natural-looking results- lips that look plump and youthful without the appearance of having been “done.”
The same fillers used to make lips fuller can also be used to shape the lips, and in fact, the two treatments often go hand-in-hand. The specifics of any filler treatment to change the shape of your lips will depend on your current lip anatomy and your desired results.
